Project Overview
Challenge Area
AR Marked Tracing + Geolocation Integration
Design Question
How do we use AR marked tracking to enhance a subway passenger’s experience?
Target Users
New NYC Subway Riders (Tourists)
Design Solution
Building an AR wayfinding platform using geolocation tracking and existing public transit signs as AR markers.
Pain Points
1
Lack of understanding of the New York subway system for tourists
2
No offline travel apps for tourists with no access to mobile data
3
No single platform gives accurate info about the subway commute
4
No existing app makes suggestions about the nearby popular spots
Concept Statement
Citytravel is an offline, AR-based mobile wayfinding platform specifically targeted at tourists who may not have access to mobile internet while traveling.
While using existing public transit signs as markers for AR marked tracing, the application incorporates a geolocation tracking system which updates itself whenever it is connected to Wi-Fi or has access to mobile data. These features enable the user to be constantly informed about the nearby landmarks and local businesses, which are either walking distance or can be accessed via the closest subway station.
